| What Bipods will fit my Ruger 10/22? I head that you have to buy some kind of adapter? Also what should I add to my stock 10/22 to make it a tack driver? Should a new barrel be my first priory? Thanks _________________________ Proud supporter of Specialized Dynamics! | |

| Moderator Registered: 12/20/05 | I can't remember the brand of the bipod I have on mine (it's been a few years), but it came with the adapter..It was just a longer sling attachment button and the bipod fit over it and locked in with a pin and still allowed a sling to be attached.. As far as a trigger, I think the Volquartson is one of the better, or at least more popular...I have one in mine and it breaks clean, light and has an adjustable trigger over travel stop.. _________________________ |

| Die Hard Member Registered: 10/16/08 | trigger is key, right now Midway has a sale on trigger kits from a custom shop about 50 bucks for a sear and hammer and all the little springs and pins. I bought 3 sets today for my kids guns. that will cut group size in half. then make sure you have good inch tube glass- even a 3x9 bushnell is good. If you shooting for group do it first without the bipod, this way you will build love and confindense in your rifle. Once you put on a bipod- plan to ALWAYs shoot it with it down and being used. The bullet is too slow and the vibrations from the bipod will most likely screw up your group 3x in size. I tested this on all my 22s rimfires on up to 22 hornets- rat poop in the drawer groups when bipod was folded up, no worries if down with weight on it. Some folks use a hammer only from Voltquartsen- they work well- but cheap enough to buy the whole kit now. I think it was 49 for the whole kit. _________________________ 3 most feared phases in the USMC; a Lewy that says "I got a plan", a Captain that says "its been my experience", and a Warrant Officer that says "watch this shxx" |

| PM senior Registered: 07/30/05 | I have one Power Custom and one Volquartsen. It's very difficult to tell them apart when shooting, other than the Volquartsen has some pre-travel creep I can feel. I paid a lot more than $49 for mine when I bought it. I'd grab that fast if I still had a stock 10-22 I wanted to improve. _________________________ IdBob: You will be missed, my friend. |

| Die Hard Member II Registered: 01/03/06 | Here's the game plan I think all 10/22 owners should follow: #1) Ditch the barrel band and install a small piece of innertube under the barrel close to the receiver. Those 2 items right there may very well cut your groups in half. If you have a wood stock you may want to cut off the area where the barrel band was and refinish for looks. Good time for a camo paint job. Let's face it, a factory carbine stock is only worth about $20. It's not like you can mess it up too bad. #2) Get a new aftermarket hammer. I use VQ because they were on sale for $35 at the time. Power Custom is good too and the $50 kit they have now sounds like a steal. I also install an over travel screw on the trigger or trigger gaurd. This might help a little but I wouldn't call it a requirement. #8-32 set screw and a drill bit and tap should run about $5. #3) Install a new sling stud 2-3" away from the tip of the stock. Bipods: Harris has long been regarded as one of the best. But IMO, a 10/22 doesn't need a bipod unless you are sitting over a prarie dog town or shooting paper. Don't get me wrong, my predator gun wears a bipod all the time. But the 10/22 is a great, fast handling, fast shooting varmint gun so why saddle it down with the weight. Kinda like putting a bipod on a lever gun |

By the time you get all that, assuming you have to buy it all, and put in a couple of hours, the $50 is long gone. However, you could then do more 10-22 triggers for just the time involved, and you pick up some valuable skills. _________________________ IdBob: You will be missed, my friend. |

| PM senior Registered: 07/30/05 | If you want a drop-in trigger that's nice, follow those links I posted above to Midway. As far as "easy to install", it's an hours worth of work and by the time you have everything adjusted and fit, you'll have taken the trigger group completely apart about 3 times. The short "cheater pin" that Power Custom includes is going to be your best friend, trust me. Here's what you're dealing with: That looks simple enough, what could go wrong? Once again, I suggest you keep all the Ruger springs instead of replacing them, you'll never have a problem if you do that. I'm just sayin. Edit: When you put the hammer spring assembly back in, make sure the opening in the C clip (part B-45) is up (towards the bolt). That's important, memorize it.
